Here in VA too. One day my neighbor tells me;
"F*** that. We burn all of the time, anyways. Nothin' ever comes of it."
So, one night I went out to the barrel with a bunch of wood scraps and cardboard, a six pack and a lawn chair. Lit it off and popped a cold one.
The cops were in my yard ten minutes later. Made me get the garden hose, then stood there and watched me put it out. Told me; "From here on out we call the fire department. That way, you get a bill for their time and a fine. No more. Got it?"
Crazy part is, I can legally burn wood in my outdoor woodstove all I want, and fire pits are still legal......so long as it was bought in a store, or professionally installed......................
