The armorers of the US Army have disagreed with your assessment for nearly 60 years. I understand your nostalgia for a Garand, but the M4 or M16 are far better battle implements.

Wonder how many times your audible ping gave away a unit's position? Pretty sure the answer is zero, fire fights being notoriously noisy.
BTW the Army and USMC did not want to go from the 308 caliber M14, the Garand's replacement, to the 223 caliber M16 which became infamous for its predilection to jam.
