Most scientists are just stating what they find. Sure, there is money in it for them, but more often than not there isn't a great deal of money. When a clergy-jerk makes a statement it can't be verified, is usually ridiculous and has an ulterior motive. I wouldn't trust a preacher to speak on the colour of shit.
Oh, come on now, that is a little harsh isn't it. Who was it that stated the purple teletubbie was in fact an attempt to undermine family values as it was really just a hidden affirmation that homosexuality was okay??

He certainly had some bearing in what he was talking about. At least he was correct in one area. There was a purple teletubbie.
