I recently had a discussion with a family member who's ex-army and in the process of getting his concealed-carry in NJ. He claims the qualification process is not trivial, and generally tows the whole NRA Good Guy With A Gun line as further rationalization. But some of my concerns would include: When is the last time this Good Guy With A Gun was at the firing range? Is he having a bad day today emotionally? Is he on medication? Is he taking drugs for recreational purposes?

I believe everyone arming themselves is only going to make matters worse. We need to confront the insane overabundance of firearms in the U.S., their ready availability, and of course, the social and political turmoil that's lead us to this point, and ask ourselves whether it's more important to "exercise your 2nd amendment right" or start down a path of removing guns from our society. I admit this is an intimidating proposition, and I certainly don't have specific answers for how to go about it. The longer this nonsense goes on, however, the more I find myself moving toward a hard-line stance on gun control - more specifically gun removal.

I like this!
Most Americans would come eventually to see gun control in the same light as Social Security...something that made the US better. I have walked the streets of Singapore at 1 am and you cannot imagine how good it feels knowing you are not going to get shot.

I will give up my need to own a three-round burst semi-automatic weapon if it means one life is going to be saved. Those rifles belong in Iraq, not in my living room or at Starbucks.
I don't need it, and I trust those who have been professionally trained with them (the police, the SWAT teams, the US military) to use them to protect me should the need arise.

At the end of the day these massacres are being carried out by people with clean records.
