That's the equivalent of ten 9-11 attacks per year. Accordingly, there have been over 100 times as many killed by gun violence in this country than have been killed by terrorists since 9-11. In fact, there have been nearly 2000 times as many people killed by gun violence in the US last year (~30,000) as there have been US citizens killed by terrorism worldwide (17). Yet, we are willing to spend $ trillions and to curtail civil liberties to fight terrorism, but won't even pass a background check for a terrorist who wants to buy a gun at a gunshow or over the Internet. Explain that to me.
"Guns used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year -- or about 6,850 times a day."

Gary Kleck and Marc Gertz, "Armed Resistance to Crime: The Prevalence and Nature of Self-Defense With a Gun," 86 The Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, Northwestern University School of Law[/I]

"Each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives."

According to the National Safety Council
