I'm just sick to see both sides finding easier to show their asses than to run the country.

Veterans of the Vietnam War were arrested earlier tonight at the New York City memorial after staying on the premises past the curfew time of 10 p.m. Police gave multiple warnings as veterans continued to read from a list of names. Video from the event shows that not only veterans were loaded into the paddy wagon, but also younger participants in the vigil as well.

Seems to be this Veterans For Peace group. That is a great way to work civil disobedience, violating a curfew law.

An Iraq war veteran's perspective

By Mike Prysner, VFP Board Member and former U.S. Army corporal and Iraq war veteran.

Prysner_compressed.jpegLet’s look at this debate and the shutdown for what it really is, and what the attitudes about the politicians involved teach us about their management of our lives.

For veterans and service members, the government shut down means the closing down of many essential services. The Veterans Benefits Administration will be unable to process education and rehabilitation benefits, which are critical to so many vets being able to pay their bills. The Board of Veterans' Appeals will be unable to hold hearings, extending our already outrageous wait period even longer.

If the shutdown continues, the 3.6 million veterans who receive disability and compensation payments for wounds in service—many of whom completely rely on these paychecks to eat—will not be paid. “Thank you for your service”?

The Republicans, on their quest to attack all social programs, civil rights and social rights, are mad that 50 million people will have access to healthcare who didn’t before. This is their opportunity to rally their base against “big government” to pad their pockets from lobbyist friends and boost their anti-worker election strategy.

Makes as much sense as making them into glowing-god-heros among us. It's just theatre.

Mezz is correct in calling you all out. Your self induced hatred of Republicans and ordinary
Americans have blinded you to what's really going on. Your fearless leader refuses
to do his job and negotiate what's best for the country. He is holding the White House,
The United States and the economy hostage with his dictatorship policies and childish
attitude.
He is lashing out and threating all of us like a child bully who can't get his allowance
raised. His irresponsible behavior, lack of achievements and inability to communicate
with world leaders has lowered our status worldwide. Even the Russians had
to step in and put him in his place. America is headed backwards at an alarming rate
and some you guys are fine with it. Have you become so brainwashed by this scam
of an administration that the only response you can come up with is name calling
and turd posting? Wake the Hell up and realize your little bleeding hearts are
pumping the blood out of this great country.

What will you do to us if we don't see it your way, after you throw a pile of insulting rant at us? That cheer for 'calling us out' sounds like a threat. You ready to kill us or something?

You're all worked up by propagandists who have been pushing your buttons. Don't mistake metaphor for reality. The country doesn't have 'life blood,' and our problems do not stem for some stupid/evil people 'pumping it out.' Now take a deep breath, put down the metaphors, and try arguing with actual, concrete facts and examples.

No, Discrediting politicians, yes even the saintly GOP, as unprincipled and shameless users of people they don't really care about, despite all of their bluster. You see, the real measure of how much anyone cares about the troops is how quick he is to call for war. A whole lot of rightwingers get wood when they see the promise of conflict on the horizon, don't they? Especially the ones who have never served.

I love being called brainwashed by the brainwashed. Takes one to know one, doesn't it? Thanks Jack, you're a peach.

I think driving the Tea Party to it's knees would be the best thing for the country. You see, they look like a bunch of very determined, angry and intransigent ignoramuses to me. And, those are usually the worst kind.
It's kind of a "What we have is bad, but what's it gonna look like if these imbeciles gain power?" sort of deal.

Ummmmmm, I dunno....it's a close one. But , for now I'll take the devil I know over the raging thing that escaped from the basement. But, that's me. I'm crazy that way.

Oh, and by the way, Jack. The only "blood" I see leaving this country........................

Is the offshore accounts and outsourced factories created by smiling assholes like Mitt Romney.

There are so many ways to intellectually discredit your statements that I am, momentarily, overwhelmed.

Instead, I think I'll just drink this espresso and laugh at you. (Well, okay, let's just undermine your entire point -- once -- and be done with it.)

You actually believe that Republicans and "ordinary Americans" belong in the same sentence?

There's your problem.
