Entitlement = theft? Fascinating.
It's a twist on old Proudon's 'Property is theft,' and quite similar. It's a slogan, a rallying cry, and quite illogical, on the surface. One thinks that there cannot be theft without property. And 'entitlement is theft' seems a blatant oxymoron, of the 'freedom is slavery' variety.
Anyone want to go for 'property is entitlement?'

I wonder what bright fellow at Cato or somewhere came up with this 'entitlement = theft' meme. It was someone getting a Koch paycheck, I'll wager. And I'll give odds.

WHY do they take it?
Because they feel entitled to it.

One can easily enough draw the impression that many in Ferguson (and the nation) believe that black kids should have the right to rob, assault and attempt to disarm a cop without consequence/risk, burn their town down to assert this right, and that this right derives from past incidents of racism. If this community was as capable of introspection as they are at defending/rationalizing lawlessness, they'd be far better off.
As much blame as is (rightly or wrongly) directed at the Police Department, I see precious little directed at Brown's parents. The are at least as culpable for their child's death as the police officer is. I know this sounds callous, but it is so.

Yeah, that's how I see it. Because the individual sees himself as entitled to something does not mean that he is. You are entitled only to things that you have earned or at the very least, been granted legally.
This labelling of so many things as "entitlements" and subsequently tying the word "entitlement" to "theft" and "violence" smells like a manipulative move to me. A psychological twist meant to make people feel guilty and ashamed to expect benefits they have either earned or has been legally made available to them.
See what I'm getting at, Don?

Feeling entitled to it is not being entitled to it.

It's actually been kicked around in the rightwing media for several years now. This is the first time I have heard it in widespread use in regards to crime and heinous acts such as looting and rioting. I really do believe this has a greater purpose.

Both sides have their convenient buzzwords to encapsulate the ill will they feel towards broadly-defined character traits of their critics/adversaries. Such is the nature of our political discourse. Hell, I'm an Imperial Grand Dragon of the KKK.

But feeling entitled to it is why you feel no qualms about taking it and react aggressively when questioned.
