Vermont is a fairly red state, very red away from the resort towns and Burlington, but Bernie has never had a problem getting elected there. Left and Right love both him. Bach when he was running for the Senate you could drive down any road and see people all over the place with "Bush-Cheney" yard signs and "Sanders for Senate" right beside them. They love Bernie because he speaks the truth to them and they know he has their interests at heart.

So maybe I'm to the left of Bernie on that.

I dunno.
When Bernie was mayor of Burlington he used to organize bus trips to Canada so seniors could buy their prescription meds in a country where big pharma hadn't quadrupled the natural price.

With all due respect Dude, ain't nuthin red about Vermont.

Check out the 2012 Election results. Obama took every single county by double digits. Rutland was Romney's best county. And he lost that one to Obama 56-42.

Some of the rural ones could be called slightly less blue than the urban ones, but by no stretch of the imagination could they be called red.

C'mon down here to Alabama, and I'll show you what a red county looks like.

I have no doubt he's left of me on gun control.

I'm pretty far right on that.

But it has a low priority for me.

I can see the benefits of universal healthcare for people at large but fail to see the benefit to the very same people in opposing gun control. If you bring up the 2nd amendment as justification then I can claim that free enterprise is being compromised for universal healthcare.
