To me it's all relative.
For example if those ISIS dudes could somehow get a hold of Dick Cheney I'd be like "Hellyeah, Burn that Fucker!, and while you're at it burn me a DVD of it."
I'd be willing to pay them up to $29.95 plus $9.95 shipping and handling for that.
Wouldn't trust them with my credit card info though. They'd have to accept payment via paypal.

As I've said, Daesh treats their enemies as if they aren't human. That doesn't make it true. Only we can do that and Rob's attitude is the essential first step along that path.

There was a Jordanian air force general yesterday giving notice to the leader of Daesh that his days are numbered. They may have got him too.
I sure hope so.

These folks are at war with us, whether we want to admit it or not. They're killing anyone and destroying anything that they don't happen to like. There's no reasoning or negotiating with folks like this.
So how would you propose they be dealt with? Frankly, I suspect its past due for this bunch and anyone in league with them to reap what they've sewn.

Typically fucked up "argument" from whell. Of course we should, and must, utterly defeat Daesh. That's not the point. The point is we dare not fall into the trap of regarding them, and therefore treating them, as they do us. That makes us indistinguishable from them and delegitimizes our cause.

Tom I did not say that we were always angels. But what does that have to do with ISIL?

To be sure, we're damned if we do and damned if we don't. The analogy that Rob was using was apt in that these Daesh f*#kers will take what power and territory they can if left to their own devices.
Their aim is to make this a modern day 'Holy War' between the so called Christian West and Islam. They completely screwed the goat by burning that Jordanian pilot imho. Now, it's Sunni's fighting Sunni. The Shia are being kept away from this internal conflict. I hope the Jordanians are up to the task.
Frankly, the only smart course for us is the one President Obama is taking in this brutal conflict. Drones and airstrikes with no western boots involved.

It has to do with the capacity of humans anywhere, without regard to religious ideology or ethnic background or anything else, to behave as monsters and to do with the trap that sets for the rest of us.

Thousands of people spectated and cheered the barbequing of Washington. Are you willing to say that Waco deserved to be firebombed to wipe out these evil people?
|
Sorry but Waco immediately made me thing of the more recent episode in that place. The people who murdered that poor lad should have felt the full weight of the law. Unfortunately down there there was a law for whites and another for blacks.
But WTF does that episode have to do with ISIL?

Yes and probably more human then the effete lot here who seem to believe that war is a tea party.conducted according to some rule book. I don't want anyone burned to death. I do wish to see people punished for their crimes. I will also suggest that Diogenes would be wasting his time in Raqqah.

I didn't bring up the Axis and Allies. I say some of the stuff we did was wrong, some can be justified, some is iffy.
Now a parallel would be to someone who wanted all those folks in Dresden burned-up, thinking it's necessary and desirable, calling them bugs, etc.
