What I mean by that is a job with actual benefits like health care, paid time off, and a pension plan.
Yep. When I joined the Navy in '82, lots of the people I knew had decent paying (private sector) jobs with pension benefits. Thank God we've done away with that, it was way too good for them and the corporations resented being saddled with it. See, now we get to support them with our tax money through PBGC and the social safety net. It's so much better that way, because now the Romney types can bitch about the 47% while they avoid paying taxes and stick us with the bill. They are so much happier with that arrangement. And that's what life is all about, isn't it? Keeping rich people happy...... (Yes, I'm being sarcastic.)

And then when it all blows up, the politicians aren't blamed...no, they blame the teacher, or the clerk, or the policeman or fireman who took the job in good faith with the pension as part of his pay package for being greedy.

The former politician doesn't do what you're saying. He's gone and forgotten. The new one does it because no politician can raise taxes and get reelected. And so it goes.

Maybe so.

But doesn't make it any less maddening to be painted as greedy, a whiner or an entitled brat because you expect your employer to keep their end of the bargain now, does it? What, we're "pussies" because we expect to get what we work for?

No. But once the $hit hits the fan (i.e., the municipality is on the verge of bankruptcy due to overwhelming pension debt), they have little choice. The dynamic I described has been in place for years and once it unravels, everybody gets phucked.

I think this is one thing finn and I see eye to eye on.

Promises can be made and people counting on them. But in the end if it gets out of hand and unsustainable it brakes. In the end someone get phucked, guess who.
