If you wanted to go see any federally funded places like the Statue of Liberty? Sorry, closed due to a Tealiban threat. I think these assholes really would rather shut it all down (temporarily) despite all of the extra costs involved. So much for being fiscally conservative.

This doesn't have to happen.
After all, the Democrats could concede to some of the modest proposals offered by the Republicans, and then they could pass another CR and continue with business as usual.

Hanford is not too far away from here. To date contractors have treated about 8 billion gallons of groundwater and have removed about 55 tons of contaminants, many of them radioactive. I guess it is no big deal, it only borders a bend on the Yakima river on one side and about 40 miles of the Columbia river on the other. Makes those of us downstream feel real safe.

This morning on my drive, I was listening Mike Huckabee who claimed that if more Americans listened to Fox news instead of NBC, ABC, CBS & CNN, the GOP will not be blamed for this impending government shut down.
I am betting that there will be a shut down which will amount to a paid LOA for people working for the Federal govt. and the rest of us will be screwed by footing the bill.

There were modest proposals offered? That's news to me. Nothing modest in delaying the ACA for a year and the President is correct in telling the Tealiban to stuff it where the sun don't shine. I'm not buying all the crapola that Reid and the Prez are the ones who're being obstinate, it's just wingnuts a spinning, imo. There's a link in post #65 to a WaPo article that shows that there has been some movement on the Dem's side.

Only two proposals that I know of. First block the funding and now delay for a year. This one year proposed delay is only for passing the CR, not the budget itself.

Huckabee, Hannity, some whiner named Levin (sp) and Savage. Right wing punditry rules for me.
