Who could argue with truthfully that with shows like Frontline, Nova and The Newshour especially with segments like Shields and Brooks are anything but teller of unbiased facts. Leaving it up to the viewer to make their own decisions. Least not forget Washington Week and Charlie Rose shows that can do an in depth investigating interview without fear of to much outside influences.

Agreed, but there's no argument IMHO about the leftward lean of Bill Moyers as well as most of the independently produced Frontline segments.

I think many parts of PBS and the non-Faux/Talk Radio media world may indeed lean left. It's probably because journalists (outside of Faux/Talk Radio) are generally a well educated lot and well educated people tend to lean left (just ask Rick Santorum).

Which ones lean right?

So, what you're saying is that people who work for PBS have political opinions? Shocking!

The trick is to keep to the facts when you're doing reporting and restrict yourself to the facts. That's about half of what they teach in J school.

The people you referred to are commentators, not reporters, and the show you linked to is an opinion show, not news. It's perfectly appropriate, even good, to have informed people offering informed opinions on a variety of subjects. That's not propaganda.

Finn mentioned Shields & Brooks. Before that on the News Hour it was Shields and Gigot, Paul Gigot being another conservative pundit.

Actually, Jim Lehrer himself leans a bit right. It was the reason PBS paired him with Robert McNeill. You know, fairness and balance.

Let me add to Shields and Brooks on the News Hour the long, long, long running McLauchlan Group. There you can see such notorious Left Wing propagandists as Pat Buchannan, Rich Lowry, Tony Blankley, Monica Crowley and McLaughlin himself.

Facts have a liberal bias.

There is still no blatently rightie show, as there is many leftie ones. McLaughlin does lean right but his whole show is all about all sides. He was 100% against the war in Iraq btw.

Finn I like Frontline but agreed, when they're political they're really political.

Pete,

So you would be OK with PBS if they showed a blatantly rightie show?

Would you then accept a proposal that cuts government PBS funding in exchange for a codified fairness doctrine and/or equal time rule that applied to over the air and cable news alike?

No, I wouldn't support anything that overrode free speech. Perhaps it's better to say I wouldn't support anything that gave the potential for someone else to say what free speech is.

I can't help it if the well-educated left can't privately support their own shows

Oh, my! Aren't you a clever boots!

I suppose what you're trying to say here is that conservatives lack creativity.

No argument there.
