Fair enough. Bear with me while I work my way through the nuances.

Nancy does look surprisingly life-like on occasion, doesn't she? Don't remember that quote but I'll take your word for it. Not sure I agree but I think you'll agree that people can't spend what they don't have (please don't ask me 'Why not? The government does.') and unemployment benefits do put cash in the economy. I'd be quite interested in the details of the 'return it and they'll spend it' assertion particularly as it relates to the large corporations.

Not sure I agree that we know that the stimulus didn't work. There are those who would assert that absent the stimulus the U.S. would have actually fallen into depression.

Oh, and the article has a new name for you guys to kick around and add to your hate list: Sheldon Adelson.
You mean the racist gambler who says he will pay up to $100 million to defat Obama. If that is the sort of SOB you righties like then bless y'all.

You mean like running two wars on the national credit card? If there is a repub who can find his arse with both hands and a flashlight I have yet to meet them.

Toothfairy? Believing in something doesn't make it so. That's how the term voodoo economics came to be so popular. So, the devil's in the details, got any?

What credible source do you have as to which solutions didn't work? Can it be that you believe that none of the stimulus programs have worked at all?

Well, the auto "bailout" for one! That was a total bust, right?

Whell believes in the moral hazard scenario. The banks and auto makers should have been left to fail then allowed to file for bankruptcy. Then they could have a redo in labor negotiations and screw the workers out of their already agreed to benefits and salarys.

Can you imagine what the right wing would be saying about Obama if he had let GM and Chrysler die? I do not even want to think about it. And Whell, a recession is like having a flat bicycle tire....the only way to get it to work is to pump (stimulate) some air into it.
If big business cannot do it then the government sort of helps out....

What would be your solution Whell? Tell us. This a structural change in the economy. Structural is macroeconomese for the economy is not like it used to be at all... something major has changed sort of like going from analog to digital or from gas powered lamps to electrical lights. Maybe this is the conquest of the Information Age where widgets, if they are made at all, are outsourced from service economies to cheap labor in the developing world so as to maximize the job creator's profits leaving the redundant rust belt assembly line worker without a job and angry....

The auto bailout was the evil moron Bush, not the good and wonderful Obama

Where's the empirical evidence that stimulous works?

Pete

The New Deal didn't work? Stop the presses! LOL. The Hoover dam is still putting out electricity last I checked.

No, the New Deal didn't work. Apparently the way to pull out of depressions is to fight world wars
