Angry

Pio1980 please don't take this as an attack on you it's entirely directed at the article.

Ahem, FUCK THAT!! An admission that he was guilty of the crimes for which he has been pardoned per the 1915 Supreme Court opinion in Burdick v United States? Not that dumfoundingly incompetent unqualified emotionally infantile self-absorbed vindictive media clown.Oh no not him. He'd use a pardon to crow that the Dems couldn't prosecute because he did nothing wrong and his cult will wave their idiot flags and scream it to the high heavens. Even if he's tried and convicted he'll never concede he did anything wrong so nobody's holding their breath waiting for that to happen. Rump is more than a (soon to be) former president he is a threat to our democracy and a threat to our nation. Not prosecuting him would be closer to banana republic-ism than prosecuting him. The world would see it as more corruption by "letting him off". Would the 73 million Americans be upset it Rump got prosecuted? So what? If I beat and robbed some person on the street prosecutors would care not one whit if a bunch of my friends wanted me to be let off because other than that I was a pretty OK guy. We who voted for Biden considered our national nightmare over once Biden got to 270 Electoral votes. Sure we want healing but pardoning Rump will not make his cult see that they were wrong. They would see it as vindication. Would prosecution lead to civil unrest? Not likely. With Rump out of office there's no profit in organizing and stirring up the Rump faithful. Sure there will be some making a lot of noise at first but once the attention wanes they'll go back to being miserable at home. If they don't want to join the rest of America moving forward tough taters. I don't expect Biden to run in 2024 but pardoning Donny will crap on his legacy and shred any coalitions in the Democratic party. IMO, no pardoning tRump is not a good isea.

And the GOP leadership wants to keep it that way.

Can absolutely see both sides on this one. There is stuff to be said both for avoiding making him a martyr and for letting justice be seen to be done. Maybe the tie breaker is avoiding the precedent of an administration prosecuting its predecessor.

I'd say a pardon will do nothing to being unity, but a prosecution might well drive us further apart

I wouldn't issue a pardon but I'd say publicly that federal prosecution depends on what happens at the state level. Let the threat of federal prosecution hang over his head for a few years. Let him stew over that prospect as he fends off state level criminal charges and civil suits.
I too can see there's two sides to this but what happens when the next Repub comes along and figures he's teflon too? If trump gets off scott-free the next wannabe authoritarian might actually be smart.

Regardless of what Biden may or may not do, Trump's not going to shut up and his fans will keep listening.

Dubya led us into a war on trumped up charges. That being said, Trump's Covid response clearly makes him worse.

Not an easy question. Much higher body count for W, but he hasn't threatened the Constitution.....
