Finally used one of the SK spline sockets, the 18mm, with a breaker bar and it worked fine
Also putting together some tools for my nephew's 18th birthday.
He's got 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 rachets, 1/4 and 3/8 basic reg and deepwells SAE and metric, and 1/2 SAE regs only. The 1/2 is the only quality stuff (old Thorsen from my dad). The other stuff is a Stanley set I bought him last year.
He does have some misc but not much, and almost no wrenches.
I'm planning on spending $100 or so, many a little more. Because he likes awful imported cars (

) I'm considering metric 1st and foremost.
So far I think I'll get a decent toolbox, something like this:

A complete wrench set, like this:

A set of metric impact sockets. Reg or deepwell? I lean regular:

or

A 1/2 breaker bar:

Variety sandpaper, etc.
I've also got an old Park toolbox, a portable box with metal tray, my dad gave me at about his age I'll give to him with extra stuff I've got lying around:
My mostly complete backup sets of metric and SAE sockets reg and deepwell, so he'll have two of everything (cheapies though).
My backup old Craftsman 3/8 ratchet.
An old Proto 1/2 swivel, a Snapon 6" 1/2 extention, and a HF 1/2 to 3/8 reducer.
A couple noname pliers, slipjoint & needlenose etc.
Junk new snapring plier set
HF metric and SAE allen wrench set
A round and a flat medium file
Various organizing bits
Other stuff I can't remember
Any thoughts or suggestions?
