Far be it that Herschel wants fundraising to stop, he just wants a bigger piece of the take. From the NBC article, the parties involved have adjusted the former 90/10 split to a more equitable 50/50 split.

Be interesting to see what Trump's 'special announcement' is tonight. He's teasing the presidential run, of course, but he has big reasons not to do that. Pesky campaign finance laws kick in, and all the donations will no longer be free money to spend as he wishes. And the GOP will have to stop paying for his lawyers. And, I speculate, he's being 'encouraged' not to by the powers that be....

Here it is folks, hot off the press. None other than WSJ is reporting that #45 will announce he is running for the #47 spot tonight. Not sure if I should laugh or cry, but a small part of me is celebrating. Would he be teasing us about something like this?

Former prosecutors say the upshot of these court rulings is that key Trump backers and ex-administration lawyers – such as ex-chief of staff Mark Meadows and legal adviser John Eastman – can no longer stave off testifying before grand juries in DC and Georgia. They are wanted for questioning about their knowledge of – or active roles in – Trump’s crusade to stop Joe Biden from taking office by leveling false charges of fraud.

Perhaps the judiciary as a whole is concerned that they are losing their legitimacy like the Supreme Court has lost theirs.

The actual cause of its historic unpopularity is no secret. Over the past several years, the court has been transformed into a judicial arm of the Republican Party. This project was taking shape more quietly for decades, but it shifted into high gear in 2016, when Justice Antonin Scalia died and Senate Republicans refused to let Barack Obama choose his successor, obliterating the practice of deferring to presidents to fill vacancies on the court. Within four years, the court had a 6-to-3 right-wing supermajority, supercharging the Republican appointees’ efforts to discard the traditions and processes that have allowed the court to appear fair and nonpartisan.

As a result, the court’s legitimacy has been squandered in the service of partisan victories. The Dobbs decision in June, which overturned Roe v. Wade, eliminated American women’s constitutional right to control their own bodies and was a priority of the Republican Party for decades, is only the most glaring example. In cases involving money in politics, partisan gerrymandering and multiple suits challenging the Voting Rights Act, the court has ruled in ways that make it easier for Republicans and harder for Democrats to win elections. In 2018, the court ruled that public sector labor unions violated the First Amendment rights of nonmembers by requiring them to pay fees to support the unions’ work bargaining on their behalf, after decades of rulings in which the court had found the opposite to be true. That ruling further weakened organized labor, another Republican goal.

This was an amazingly total rebuke of Judge Cannon. They found not only that the Special Master regime was unwarranted, but that Trump's entire lawsuit so lacked foundation that it afforded the court no jurisdiction in the case. They remanded the case back to the trial court "with instructions for the trial court to DISMISS the underlying civil action." They are saying that Cannon should have done nothing in the first place except throw the case out!
