Hmmmmm.................

This is an observation consistent with many that I read from people in other countries. I've encountered it in my travels abroad as well, though that was many years ago.

It always gives me pause to realize that significant amounts of people outside the United States think we're all nuts. I don't believe it's entirely true that we are, but it is interesting and disheartening nonetheless.

The way we see ourselves and the way we are seen is, increasingly, becoming two entirely different things.

Personally, I think this is bad.

In this era if someone is trying to ram a barrier, the law enforcement
must assume the worst scenario:

A suicidal person with explosive.

Yes - so I remarked above that the car should have been surrounded by a lot of security personnel, police in a safe distance. I assume that this procedure is apparently not practicable in all cases but it should at least be considered in all cases.

Sarcasm as used in my post above, in this case Dave, is a despairing effort to cope with such an incident - I am at a loss with this problem which makes me very sad.

Just what kind of weapon would you use to do that?

I don't think a .40cal. or a 9mm would have much of an effect on wheels themselves. Add the likelihood of ricochets flying in who knows what directions and you have put many people at significant risk of being killed or wounded.

How do you surround a moving vehicle?

I understand.

However, I read posts in this regard from non-Americans all day long. They seem to struggle to understand what is going on here, often just concluding that we've gone insane. I don't necessarily agree with this, but I can certainly understand how it must appear that way, when viewed from the outside in.

Respectfully, that's just not going to work.

Regardless of what is shown in movies, the cumulative impact of small arms fire is grossly overrated in terms of stopping vehicles (which was the goal, here).

The weakest part in the chain is -- decidedly -- the driver.

Distasteful? Of course.

But that's the view in terms of training.

True!

Jihadists sometimes use women to execute suicide missions.

They rely on the hesitancy of their opponents to shoot women.

I my opinion this woman got apruptly into panic, for what mental reason ever, a loud crying baby behind her. Certainly she had mental problems but this is no reason to shoot her. Now you guys say, it was not visible who was in the car, how much danger could probably have been in that car. This is absolutely correct - but if the car cannot move anymore and it is surrounded by hundreds of police officers you got any any time you need to get the person out of the car, you just have to wait in a safe distance. A baby lost his mother.

Americans love to shoot Americans - and 7,5 billion Non-Americans do not understand this. Sorry for this sarcasm. It is just because I love this country anyway, each of my posts in this forum is a confession of this sentiment for this country.
It's fair to say SOME Americans love the idea of shooting people (the targets don't have to be American). There's a testosterone-fueled sentiment I call the 'conservative death wish,' since I see it predominately in persons of conservative personality. They eagerly advocate the death of any persons they can conceivably justify killing (eg, home invaders), regard any avoidance of the death penalty as incomprehensible and actively evil, and shout 'die' as the desired outcome to a case of uninsured medical need. Don't know what the source of this 'death wish' is, but I doubt that it is geographical.

As for the situation at the Capotol--do you KNOW the car was surrounded by
"hundreds of police officers," or is that just how you imagine the situation? I can easily imagine a moving car being pursued, and only a few officers being on hand when it came to a stop. And the apparent aggression of the driver, coupled with the proximity to the Capitol, prompting swift action to end the incident.

It is not fair to say " she had mental problems but this is no reason to shoot her." No one is suggesting her mental problems were a reason to shoot her. Vehicular aggression against the White House, officers attempting to arrest her, and the Capitol were the reasons to shoot her.
