People like that will just claim those advances are only because of affirmative action.

Navy to ban Confederate flag, symbols from its bases and ships

https://thehill.com/policy/defense/5...ases-and-ships

I certainly never saw it during my eight years of Navy service, even in Norfolk. This symbol of hate has no place in the Navy, happy to see they are banning it. Hateful Repubes must be fuming.

About time. Even the favorite Sport of Rednecks relents.

Amazing how these peckerwoods change their tune when it might hurt their bottom line. That Bubba Wallace is very brave man. He needs a layer of Kevlar in that race car.

Former co-worker of George Floyd and Derek Chauvin claims they 'bumped heads' in the past

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/...071539036.html

Quote:
Both Floyd and Chauvin used to work security at El Nuevo Rodeo, a nightclub in Minneapolis that was burned to the ground in recent riots. Floyd worked security inside, while Chauvin was paid to sit in his squad car outside the club when he was off-duty. Former co-worker David Pinney said that not only did Floyd and Chauvin know each other, but they had a contentious history.

“They bumped heads,” Pinney said, adding, “It has a lot to do with Derek being extremely aggressive within the club with some of the patrons, which was an issue.” “Is there any doubt in your mind that Derek Chauvin knew George Floyd?” CBS correspondent Jeff Pegues asked. “No, he knew him,” Pinney replied. “How well did he know him?” “I’d say pretty well.”

Chauvin had a history of complaints against him, and the former owner of the club, Maya Santamaria, was not surprised by what she saw in the video, except that it went as far as it did.

“I was not surprised when I initially saw his knee on his neck, to be honest,” Santamaria said. “Because I’ve seen Chauvin do stuff along those lines. What surprised me was that he didn’t stop right away once George was obviously, ya know, saying, ‘OK, OK.’”

Santamaria also believes race was an issue for Chauvin.

“Do you think Derek had a problem with black people?” Santamaria was asked. She replied, “I think he was afraid and intimidated.”
Uh-huh.

Someone asked me how I felt as a black man at this time, especially these last couple of weeks. Part of me wants to say, "the same." After Mr. Floyd was murdered and the officer charged with 3rd degree manslaughter (at the time), I mentally and emotionally went to that rolling-of-the-eyes place: Another black man murdered and the crime captured on video. Right. An officer is arrested for doing the deed and we'll probably have to endure another trial and, LIKE THE OTHERS, he'll go free. It could still happen that way. "Makes you wanna holler!" (see photo) I'm seeing other things, though. Now, the PLANET is taking this opportunity to raise their voices against racism. THAT is different. If you know me, you know I'm the optimistic type. I'm going to remain that way. I'll continue to support the cause in the ways that I can. I'll VOTE (I was going to do that anyway, if you catch my drift). But I'll not forget my personal experiences with racism here, in what I'd love to acknowledge as this land of the free. And MY experiences pale when compared to my mentors' and what they had to endure. As black musicians?? Here??? Pul-eeze. I've had a lifetime of their stories told to me, including by Milt Hinton, folks. He was one of the most positive, people loving, music and life loving souls I've ever been around. Dear Milt told me what it was like for him to walk by a lynched, charred body of a black man, swinging from a tree in the south. His sister was pushing him along, rushing him and encouraging him not to look. I know that change IS possible and positive change is happening. Hooray for that. The racist experiences that have rocked my soul are etched there. Still, I'll continue to work on our social problems, as did Milt Hinton, Ray Brown, Count Basie, Milt Jackson, Dizzy Gillespie and a host of others who shared their experiences with me. They found ways to make a difference when they could, sociopolitically. But they specifically and purposefully did so with their music--Every Day.
