Sure. Ridicule. But just what about Trump makes the idea so ridiculous? Can you cite examples of his good will, his fairness, his commitment to justice, his overriding concern to 'do the right thing,' his refusal to cross lines even if he risks LOSING?
So, he manifestly hopes to create a huge groundswell of Latino-hate and ride it to the Presidency. The main obstacle to this plan is 35 million potential Latino voters. What can enable his election in the face of highly-unified opposition from this huge block of voters? Two word: voting rates.
This graph illustrates the fact that Hispanics don't vote as much as white people.
Trump seeks to benefit by mobilizing his [white] voters to vote even more. He has publicly said this in response to questions about his electability. But is not the flip-side of this strategy bloody obvious? Reinforcing the low and declining trend in Hispanic turnout may well appear easy as well as beneficial. And aware as he must be that the scapegoating of Hispanics will tend to anger them and promote voter backlash, Trump is certainly motivated to seek ways to counter this.
What I'm really saying at this point is 'watch out' for actions, instigated by the trump camp, that promote political violence againt Hispanics. The attack on a protestor by his bodyguard is a glaringly obvious example. Let's see if there are more.
