I am truly outraged by the countless instances of injustice and needless abuses by law enforcement, but not Mike Browns highly questionable example as the poster child. Too many other genuine examples to squander outrage and energy here.

You are saying, then, I am outraged, but I don't like the Michael Brown 'example.'
Therefore, what?
Generally, a 'but' in an argument means everything said in front of it doesn't count.

It is not really about Mike Brown if you think about it. African Americans are upset that they perceive their lives are not as valuable in the eyes of law enforcement as white lives are. That conversation is not going away anytime soon.

"But" means I except Mike Brown as a good example of abuse of authority worthy of the attention it's garnered over a long history of obvious examples that should be addressed. Even the "surrender" gesture is suspect as fact here.

Whether we like it or not, the Mike Brown case hit the national stage because the citizens of Ferguson rose up in unison, justified or not. No recalls possible.

The corpse was in the street, and his companion was saying he had his hands up. That narrative was flashing around, unchallenged basically, for days. That's what happened. Once something like that happens, there's no going back.
Maybe Brown was a victim, or maybe he got killed in a 'good shoot.' If the later, it's ironic, but there have been plenty of bad shoots swept under the rug, so the irony may be fitting, in a sense....

Seems to me there are two major issues driven by this incident.
Problems with the trust of police in certain neighborhoods and towns. Typically related to the skin color of the residents therein, and...
The failure of state's attorneys to persue grand jury indictments with equal vigor when the accused is a manner of law enforcement, regardless of color or whether the offense was committed in the line of duty...or not.
