Someone at AK mentioned it and it has been a while since I had given it a spin.
Some of their stuff became so commercial later on, that it was hard to remember how good the early stuff was. They had a pretty good blues background. Their version of "God Bless the Child" was the first I heard.

I liked his voice but I liked Al Kooper's influence. There was still enough of that left for the second album, the self-titled one, but I never really liked anything that came after.
