BTW, while I did sign the petition, I trust there will not in fact be a prosecution. Such a thing would devolve into outrageous political theater, giving the Cotton crew a lovely grandstand while their supporters would flood the town, whooped-up to dangerous levels.

It would be nice to see Cotton slapped down as he is still wet behind the ears. As they say children should be seen but not heard.

Censured by the Senate would be appropriate, but obviously won't happen. Prosecuting him would just make him a martyr.

FYI - the website must really be loaded up. I signed the petition this morning and it took almost 45 minutes for the confirmation email to show up in my inbox.

Thanks Republicans, for once again embarrassing us on the world stage.

Quote:
Washington (AFP) - German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Thursday criticized Republican senators for sending a letter to Iran over the nuclear talks, fearing that the political stunt could undermine Tehran's confidence in the ongoing negotiations.

"This is not just an issue of American domestic politics, but it affects the negotiations we are holding in Geneva," Steinmeier told journalists in Washington before meeting with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

"Obviously, mistrust is growing on (...) the Iranian side if we are really serious with the negotiations."

Steinmeier added it would be good "if the letter of the 47 senators no longer causes any disturbance in the negotiations."

I used to have a smidgen of respect for Mark Kirk. The guy fought the good fight with BP over in Whiting IN a few years back when he was a US Congressman. This was when BP tried to strong-arm the Indiana legislature with the threat of the loss of 1500 jobs if they weren't allowed to dump more poison into Lake Michigan than they already were. Kirk went nuts...engaged every politician available from every Great Lakes state in the fight. They all came down on Gov. Mitch "The Knife" Daniels and the hacks in the Indiana legislature like a carload of shot, and BP's extortion attempt was shot down. And, by the way, with no loss of jobs to the poor folks in Gary.

And just last week, Kirk actually came out and said that if the city of Chicago wants to get it's ass out of hock (in so many words) they will re-elect Rahm Emanuel, and not give "Chuy" Garcia the job. He didn't come out and say this, but anybody from the neighborhood knows that if any austerity measures are going to impact any minority neighborhood or minority businesses "Chuy" ain't gonna do it. So good for Kirk.

And then...the asshole puts his name on this letter. Unbelievable. I sent him an email...it was almost as ugly as one of my posts here, although I did avoid use of the f-bomb.

You do realize that this letter was step 2 of a two-step process, the first of which was Bibi's speech (which you defended/supported)?
