Besides...the whole conversation has turned into a steaming pile of horseshit. We have what.......106 pages in the other thread now? And what's behind it?

Evidence? No.

Conjecture? Absolutely.

Reason? No.

Hysteria? For sure.

Rabble rouser. Absolutely...in the face of horseshit...every time.

The blonde was a Chicago public school teacher on the west side for 17 years until it finally overwhelmed her and she couldn't take it anymore. One day in February probably 1972 or so, against the rules, she did a home visit. Walked into the apartment building, there was a hint of heat. There were strings running down to a ring at the bottom of the stairs with the family name on each string. When you pulled it, a bell rang upstairs next to their door, if somebody hadn't ripped off the bell, or if the string hadn't broke. So she pulled the string and the mom called her up. She went up to the apartment, which was just warm enough that there was no frost on your breath. The mom had 5 kids, one in the blonde's 5th grade class. And she was so proud to show the blonde that she had been able to come up with 5 milk crates so that each kid had their own milk crate for their clothes and there weren't any more fight's in the morning over socks or underwear. Sometimes the toilets worked, mostly they kept a bucketfull of water next to the toilet.

One time the blonde broke up a fistfight between two 7th graders...three hours later a mom showed up drunk on cheap vodka with a pistol in her hand looking for the white bitch with the skinny legs who laid hands on her son. They hid her in the school's walk-in safe until the cops showed up.

I got hundreds of these stories from her. The day Dr. King was murdered. The day some asshole 8th grader kid's uncle beat a male teacher within an inch of his life with a 2X4 in the school parking lot. She should write a book. But she'd just be called a racist...so fuck that.
I wish she would. For a while teachers were sending stories into a columnist here until the school figured out who it was and shut them up.

I have vast respect for the tough mothers.

Thanks one1 for your input. I understand that the cops used to be a way of the white establishment riding herd over the black community and can understand the feeling of resentment, and even now my one friend (who is white, grew up in the hood) calls the Cleveland police the biggest gang in Cleveland.

I believe it's time for the black community to take the reins firmly. The police work for them now, not against them, and residents need to both enforce that and use the police for their purpose - make the community safer. I wish them well.

We agree on one thing

I'll tell ya what Pete. In relatively lily-white, Wheaton IL, center of the conservative Christian universe...minority moms got nothing but the best service from the Wheaton PD when it came to the youth officer service supporting them in dealing with a wayward adolescent who was headed in the wrong direction.

The tough mom's called the cops on their destructive or law-breaking progeny and the Wheaton cops were more than happy to spend the time helping the mom decide what action to take.

What I object to, and I object to it on pretty much any issue...is broad brush bullshit on internet forums. What we get hereabouts pretty much every time when it comes to some punk-ass gangbanger or prospective gangbanger who's out looking for trouble and ends up finding it...it the good old broad brush.

You can't imagine the grief I took over at Radiofreeliberal.com when I quoted Mike Royko's column that those guys shot up by Bernie Goetz on the subway in NYC years ago were punks who were out looking for trouble and found it.

We had issues with the Phoenix PD. A new chief was put in place & things have improved greatly. This guy has a set & has made some big changes that have pissed off the unions & many officers. No visible tattoos (retroactive), pushing to put cameras on every uniformed officer, & he removed three longtime assistant chiefs.
It starts at the top.

Even in LA it is odd that only 25% of the police cars have cams.....the excuse is funding but I think there is real resistance on the part of officers to be recorded. In LA it is mandated, but obviously not being implemented. There was an African American shot by the police last week or so but no cam in the vehicle.

Putting the cameras (with audio) directly on the officers is having a very positive effect.

Cops that shun accountability need to be gone.
