Thank goodness our founding fathers gave us the 2nd ammendment. After
fleeing from parts of Europe and living under oppression, they wanted a
better life for us and had witnessed what can happen to an unarmed society.
In the last century 53 million innocent people were exterminated after being
disarmed by gun control in Russia, China and Germany alone and thats not
counting all the other rogue countries and what they have done to their
citizens while we have lived the last 200 some odd years in a peace not ever
experienced by mankind in any other parts of the world.

It's also amazing to me how, often as not, the most vehemently rabid anti-gunners have never even held, let alone SHOT a gun. And here again, the "Ronnie Redneck" irresponsible types do us no good by giving an anti the biggest, loudest, most hard-kicking gun they have to fire....WRONG ! You start people out on .22s. They don't kick, aren't loud, are accurate-If you HIT what you are aiming at, you are more likely to be disposed favorably toward the gun- and just generally are FUN. After a person has mastered & gained confidence w/a .22, then start 'em out on some of the bigger calibers, easing them into "Loudenboomers".

Sandy,

I certainly agree that it's a better idea to teach gun control advocates how to shoot a gun than to hope that they get robbed and murdered.

It is fun to shoot. I remember going to scout camp and running dad out of money trying for those NRA shooting medals. Another thing that I always thought would be fun would be to set up a row of those spray cans that say "don't puncture or incinerate" and shoot at them. Never really had an opportunity. I can dream of a world where we didn't need guns and everyone could play with them. Until then, there's going to be horror stories on either side of the debate. I believe that they should be regulated, and that there are too many people who do stupid things with guns. It would probably be a good idea to require people to get a training course and prove some proficeincy in the basic safety requiredments before they are given the keys to the gun cabinet. Might even be a good idea to make them pee in a bottle.

When you described the process you had to go through to get your automatic weapons, it didn't sound like you had anything against the procedures you had to go through to get them. Did I read that right? Even as a strong advocate of gun rights, don't you agree that it would be nuts to let just anyone walk into a store and buy an uzi?

Regards,

D-Ray

Oh, absolutely ! The Machine Gun People really kinda like it the way it is...An NFA weapon most assuredly is NOT for everybody...And with LICENSED fully-automatic (National Firearms Act of 1934) weapons, because of the stringent requirements, there have been practically NO crimes committed w/them...Look at it this way-I take my Uzi to go knock over a liquor store. I'm taking a rare & valuable ($5K+) gun to get, what, $100 or so ? Plus, the police are undoubtedly going to pay me a visit, as there AREN'T that many Class-3 Uzis around. I lose my gun, get to spend 5 yrs in the Graybar Hotel, & get to pay for all the booze I shot up when I decided to give 'em a demonstration of "Rawkin' Roll"...Yeah, REAL smart...A lot of what's out there are 1919 Potato Diggers, 1928 Thompsons, M60A1As, stuff like that, that are literally almost too valuable to shoot...

I have several revolvers, some shotguns and bolt action rifles. I dont even
own a semi automatic anything and do not want any armor piercing bullets.
But, I dont want a government that tells law abiding citizens they cant have
this gun or that bullet because once they start regulating, they could make
the case that no one needs anything more powerfull than a pellet rifle. Once
disarmed, we become very vulnerable. Outlawing guns would make as much
sense as outlawing women because there are predators out there. Its the
violaters that need to be delt with more severly and not allowed bail once
a law has been broken. You dont take away gun ownership to millions of
honest Americans because a few crooks or psycopaths have gone nuts.
My store has been robbed three times in 15 years, all 3 crooks arrested and
all three had prior arrest records for armed robbery, go figure.

If you believe that there are any weapons that private citizens should not be allowed to own, where do you draw the line? Do you believe that anything should disqualify a person from being allowed to own a weapon?

Also an off the point question for the gun experts out there. Are ice bullets just a fictional thing or are they actually possible? Maybe not H2O, but dry ice or something? Probably saw too much TV in my former life.

D-Ray

I think the "Mythbusters" show found that ice (water) bullets failed.

Thanks for the info. That was a great show, especially for kids to watch. They presented scientific method in an entertaining way.
