My thinking too! And even if it wasn't enough to get the big payoff, there would've certainly been other technological thingies!

Here's a question- if we strip mine the Moon, should the people who love "Mother Earth" be upset, or happy?
It sounds like a joke, but as a tree hugger, I honestly don't know how I feel about that.

We could leave the moon alone if it's a concern, just mine the junk out in the asteroid belt.
Another solved problem: you just send a ship with a refinery, put a giant bag around the asteriod, while you refine it you use the mtal to make a linear accelerator, when you're done, you use the slag left over as propulsion to earth orbit. Beautiful.
Plus, they know that matter behaves much differently in micro gravity. New alloys, super strong light foamed metals, crystals, holy camoly. We are idiots indeed
And I doubt we could make the moon WORSE anyway lol. But I understand.

If it tastes like swiss or sharp cheddar I'll be pleased.

Really, it's amazing what we already know we can do. There just isn't the will.

And when one of the reflectors accidentaly shifts position, oops there goes the Superdome. We 'think' we can do it, not 'know' as it has never been tried.
All this stuff would have to bre in synchrous orbit, very tightly controlled because at that distance from earth a tenth of a degree error would be several miles on earth. Of course if we accdentally toast half the population that goes a long way toward solving the problem. Wonder how long it would take for all the tumors from being irradiated on a daily basis to develop?

Low level's the key Rob. It would be uncomfortably warm, even hot, but not a death ray
Give the engineers a little credit!
And - no greenhouse gas emmisions. Or mining. Or nuclear waste.
The amazing wealth of the solar system is just lying there, waiting for an enterprising entity to pick it up. China?
Chas, cheese is a dairy product. That's bound to tick SOMEONE off lol.

Visible light is radiation, and sunlight can cause skin cancer.
