I guess if we're willing to spend untold billions to make us feel better about our borders being harder to cross, fine. It's still not addressing the underlying source of the problem, however.

That we're rich and they're not?
I agree with the work ethic thing. I've worked with legal eastern European guys and they worked like dogs, taking the jobs nobody (including me!) wanted.

This is natural especially if one comes from countries like Mexico. The green grocers here (Brooklyn Ny) had Mexicans and others from Central America working outside in winter for stretches of 12 to 14 hours. This is criminal but the hispanics do not seem to mind. The Quatemalians will accept worse conditions than the Mexicans.
Students use to get part time and holiday work in a particular restaurant nearby. No more! Recently I saw a wanted sign in Spanish on the door of said business. " Se necesita trabajador"
Often in such establishment they work the illegals for long hours and take away their tips.

And you can bet your @ss that the proprietor of that restaurant (and others like him) much prefer the Hispanic help to some coddled suburban kid who is studying art history at NYU or Columbia. Same goes for small construction companies, I'm sure.
And that is the problem in a nutshell, not that there are gaps in the border fence.

However considering that they are paying scab wages has not changed the prices on the menu nor has it changed the cost of all the McMansions going up hereabouts.

Tax them for 20 years at quadruple the normal rate for everything. Make them "pay their fair share."

Our only obligation is to screen for disease and crime at the border. We should MUCH more generous LEGAL immigration quotas. Including work permits and visas. I'd rather deal with economic ramifications of 2Mill LEGAL documented workers, than 10Mill illegal border entries..

I thought we had laws on the books pertaining to this issue.
They should be enforced. Perhaps changed, but still enforced.
At the moment illegals are just being used. As scabs by business, as votes by politicians.
