I read an excellent article in the 80s by a retired doctor who was part of the group responsible for Legionnaires disease response back in the day. He was furious over the political implications of AIDs response. Why? It was largely limited to certain groups and it would've been straightforward to contain.

He considered the politicians that refused to follow normal quarantine procedures for infected people out of PC concerns to be responsible for the resulting deaths. It was not hysteria and not bigoted.

You're so nice. Some go overboard? Nah...really???

Scary illnesses. A handy historical tool for bigot scum.

I just don't want to see legitimate medical practice relegated to the dustbin over some people's poor little feelings.

I suspect that a lot of the hysteria about Ebola is similar to the hysteria surrounding AIDS in the late 70's. Then we had bigots who wanted to quarantine gay men, now we got bigots who want to quarantine Africans.
Have any healthcare workers contracted AIDS from merely touching their face after treating a patient or handling a corpse?

Sure. Just like a healthcare worker might have contracted AIDS if they didn't follow universal precautions for healthcare workers when providing care for an AIDS patient. You don't touch your face, your tongue, the tip of your dick, or rub your eyes, stick your finger up your nose, or in your butt, wearing gloves that may have come into contact with spit, sweat, shit, ejaculate, pee or anything else oozing out of any orifice or any pore of any AIDS patient, or any Ebola patient.

So...what's your point then?

So cite an example. AIDS has been around a long time now, I'm sure you can find a case to support your position.
Why is everyone wearing full hazmat gear to treat Ebola, but they don't with AIDS? Why do we need to cremate remains of ebola victims, but not with AIDS victims? Why don't they go in and douse bleach all over the homes of AIDS victims, and wrap their cars up in plastic? How come they quarantine everyone who comes in contact with an ebola victim, but not so with AIDS?

1) Ebola kills quickly and messily.
2) Because of the second factor, Ebola victims shed virus more and more copiously, as the disease progresses.

Still, the basic means of transmission--body fluid to mucous membrane or break in skin--is the same.
