I believe that it is possible for one to move up, or in some instances down, from one "class" to another. However, "class" as in social stratification is very real. In my opinion anyone who thinks we live in a classless society, or thinks that such a thing is even possible, is a fool. And such fools exist on both ends of the political spectrum.
In this regard, the military is very stratified. Yes, it is possible for an enlisted person to apply for OCS and move into the officer ranks. But, make no mistakes; Officers have their own clubs, their own staterooms in "officer country" where enlisted folks do not go unless invited, their on mess hall, locker room..........
There is even such division between junior and senior enlisted.
"Egalitarian" my hindparts.
