You are correct but...

I agree the heartland is anything but antisocial but the bible belt is indeed anti science (in general terms only of course). How do you explain the widespread belief in religion and refusal to accept such simple knowledge as global warming?

And as far as "social issues", what kind of people do you think we are? We want to see everyone advance their position in life as much as anyone else.
I see people who try to compel other people to "obey" the rules of "their" religion as if it were "divine."

The average hard working american only has time for sound bites, that is the sad part.

Pretty dandy "straw monkey" you have there!!!

As far as global warming goes, the climate has warmed and cooled every since the start of time. I'll admit, humans undoubtedly contribute to it, but to what extent and what should be done about it are a topic for discussion. Carbon credits are a hoax, and nothing more than a scam in my humble estimation. Which is what Santorum was most likely driving at.

As far as intelligent design, I see that as a red herring and nothing more than an attempt to play to the sensibilities of the so called "Christian coalition", with the vast majority attempting to ignore this blatant pandering. They're not all as dumb as you thing they are...Noon!!!

I realize that the Republicans have to kiss Jesus's ass, or at least think they need to...but there are limits. We've yet to define "God".

And to Perry's statement on manipulating climate data to keep the money rolling in? There's a certain amount of truth in his statement, only he didn't go far enough.

A lot of scientists did get caught manipulating data. Down here in the Ozarks, we call that "lying".

To be honest, I see the "Green Movement" as much of a religion as Christianity, or Islam, or anything else. Both have their doctrines, and both feel as though it's in everyone's best interests to be forced to accept their views.

As far as that goes, we've yet to define "global warming" either. It's actually a much broader topic than the existence of God.

And if you go the the start of the posted article, it says that Tennessee passed a measure that allows teachers to "question" accepted theories on evolution and climate change. Not "teach" it, "question" it.

I don't have a problem with anyone questioning anything, I welcome it, and actually see the debate as healthy.

But what do I know, I'm just an ignert provincial hillbilly from Bugtussell.

Besides that...I'm a bigot.

Chas

BTW, I haven't singled you out to pick on Finn, I just find you "interesting".

Much obliged. I just can't help being bowled over by the rich irony of the GOP bitching about America falling behind other countries in the industrialized world while trying to inject 18th century beliefs into a modern day curriculum.

As for global warming, the conversation should be what, if anything, we should do about it consistent with our economic needs, technical capabilities, etc., and not simply denying its existence.

All I know is that I'm hoping Global Warming is true. Maybe by the time I retire, Ohio will have a tropical climate?

The mischeif of some aside, I still trust a climatologists opinion of the climate over Rick Perrys..........
