MONTICELLO (The Borowitz Report) – Visiting Thomas Jefferson’s historic home, Monticello, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin today paid tribute to the nation’s third President, telling an audience of supporters, “We must never forget the wisdom of Jefferson, and his wife, Weezy.”

Gov. Palin said that “at a time of our history when the American people needed leadership, it was Jefferson who said the immortal words, ‘We’re movin’ on up.’”

The former Alaska Governor, criticized in recent days over her grasp of American history, used the Monticello speech to demonstrate her knowledge of the country’s founding fathers.

“Let us have the ingenuity of Benjamin Franklin, who invented the electric chair,” she said.

“Let us have the honesty of George Washington, who told his father that he chopped down a cherry tree because it was blocking his view of Russia,” she added. “And let us have Washington’s perseverance, which he demonstrated during that harsh winter at Sweet Valley High.”

But she saved her most fulsome praise for her favorite American hero, Paul Revere: “In his famous cry, ‘One if by land, two if by sea,’ Paul Revere proved that you don’t have to know how to count higher than two to be a great American.”

At the end of her speech in Monticello, Gov. Palin said that she was looking forward to the next stop on her bus tour, Philadelphia, “the home of the Taco Bell.”

LMAO!

I love Palin though. She just causes so much trouble everywhere she goes.

And remember - it's McCains' fault lol.

Now doesn't this beat all? Palinista's (including Whell???) are actively trying to revise Wikipedia's Paul Revere page to reflect Palin's distorted view of history (i.e., in their eyes, even when she's wrong, she's right). Oy Vey!

When Sarah Palin inevitably loses the election, they'll just change Wikipedia to say she won. Right after she finished her term as Governor of Alaska.
A comment from the link in Finn's post. Plagiarism was very tempting.

Yup, I just edited the Revere page today to reflect the real story. One light if the Ruskies were invading by air, two if by sea.

Everything else is politicized, why not WikiPedia?? I'll stick to the original historical references in this case. Which all point to substantial backing for Palin's assertions that:

1) The mission of the Brits on that day was to "take away our guns" and other things.

2) The direct result of Revere et al riding out on that occasion was to cause as many alarms as possible INCLUDING the ringing of bells and firing of arms. After Adams was found and warned.

3) I don't believe Revere INTENDED to get caught. But when he WAS caught, he WARNED THE BRITISH, that the colonists were mustering and ready to defend the armories.

Miss anything here? All points IMPORTANT enough to be in the WikiPedia account. And it would be FAR more accurate than the poetic version...

BTW -- I learned an interesting fact here. It was customary not to enter the local pub with a loaded musket and since the colonists feared being intercepted by the Brits on the way to the meetup, they went with loaded muskets. The only way to DISCHARGE a musket is to fire it (outside the pub). Which accounts for at least SOME of the shots that Gen. Gage's troops heard as they approached Lexington.

M.Bachmann apologized and joked about her error(s).

And evidently, this just in, the NY Weiner-man just apologized and said it was no joke..

Most of the rest has been off topic slams about how stupid she is because she's, well, "stoopid" - "just look at her". It's a lot like watching the courtroom scent in Idiocracy. Sad again, because its really beneath the intellect of the contributors to this thread.

That said, I'm not on the Palin bandwagon. Quitting as governor due to pressure tells me that she can't take the pressure of sitting behind the big desk. I don't buy that she's a moron because she isn't the most articulate person or because you disagree with her politics.
