You think we've got a police state?

No.

I think we have a nation of too many heavily armed idiots.

Will you or anyone here dispute this?

Lot of truth to this. I was talking to an African American friend at work and had mentioned how refreshing the lack of overt racism by blacks & whites here was so nice. It was awful in St. Louis and most of the midwest. Bad enough I moved my family partially due to it.

She looked at me and said "Honey, you don't have to worry about that here, the fighting is with the blacks and the Hispanics out this way". This was confirmed by several others from all walks of life.

Another thing I like about Virginia, to be honest. When I first moved here in the eighties, there was a lot of overt racial tension. But, it's calmed down a lot in the last fifteen years, or so. Hispanics here just seem to keep to themselves and bother no one. I LOVE the diversity.

Back home in Lower Nowhere, Ohio there are only a handfull of blacks. And it's no accident. I hate that place.

I love it out west. I've yet to even see black and hispanic hate myself. I see that as a great thing and something I hope to never see.

I get a kick out of folks talking about the "bad" parts of town. I'd love to once just drop them off in South St Louis for a bit. I'm sure they would thing it was hell in comparison to the "bad" parts of Vegas. I'd then drop them off on the North side of St Louis so they could see what hell is striving to be.....

I'm just speaking of my own experience here. But, I think most racism really is born out of ignorance. Just seems to me that it's at it's worst in the places where there is a huge majority. If that makes any sense to you.

Makes a lot of sense t me. Ignorance and tradition I'd say.

I've personally been a "victim" of "reverse racism". When I went to work in a warehouse in St. Louis on the edage of the "hood". Since I moved to the city from "the sticks" there was absolutely no way I was not "a Klansman". Tried and convicted before even a salutation was exchanged.

Been there myself, man. My first job after the Navy in '86 was on the loading dock at a large food distributor over in Norfolk. I was the only white boy working with a bunch of older black men in their 50s-60s. They didn't trust me or want to have anything to do with me at all. It was real cold and lonely for the first six months or so...."I gotta work wit you, but I aint gotta like it."

Kind of mild experiences compared to what blacks have gone through, I would say. Considering lynchings an' such. I had some co workers take me with them to a blues club in So Central and there was one guy in the club who objected to my "lilly white ass being in his club", the brothers that I was with insisted I was "alright"- then there where the two hotties who kept at me to get up and dance! I told the one who sat in my lap, "sweetheart, you're gonna get my little white ass killed!" Everything calmed down after that, especially after I sent a round to the guys table who objected in the first place. Point I'm making is that a little mild reverse discrimination is no biggie and to be expected. You're character will shine through eventually. Just ask Twodogs!
