Lauren Boebert starts the week with one of her dumbest tweets yet

“There was just a mass shooting in Denmark, a country with some of the strictest gun laws in Europe,” Boebert tweeted. “It’s time to admit that gun laws DO NOT stop mass shootings!”

For context, what happened in Denmark yesterday was the worst gun attack in the country since February 2015, when a 22-year-old man was killed in a shootout with police after going on a shooting spree that left two people dead and five officers injured. The country has not had a school shooting since 1994.

Let's see now, two gun attacks in seven years? I think we passed that on New Year's day.

US army general suspended for mocking Jill Biden’s support of abortion rights

The US army has suspended a three-star general from a lucrative consultant’s role after a social media post appearing under his name taunted first lady Jill Biden’s support of abortion rights.

“For nearly 50 years, women have had the right to make our own decisions about our bodies,” the Democratic first lady’s statement said about the ruling, which in effect outlawed abortions in more than half the country. “Today, that right was stolen from us.”

An account under Volesky’s name replied: “Glad to see you finally know what a woman is.” Some on the platform interpreted the remark as a verbal potshot at the Biden White House’s support for the transgender community.

What began as a reluctant willingness to defend Trump soon became an ingrained habit. They ignored or excused his moral and legal transgressions; each time they did, the next excuse got a little easier. They could not bear to acknowledge to themselves, and certainly not to anyone else, that they were defending a seditious scoundrel. The cognitive dissonance was overwhelming; their self-conception would not allow them to admit they were complicit in a corrupt enterprise. This was particularly the case of those who insisted for decades prior to the Trump era that high moral character mattered in political leaders. And so they twisted themselves into knots, downplaying Trump’s maliciousness, hyper-focusing on the sins of the left...

For Trump supporters to admit that they were wrong about him—and especially to admit that Trump’s critics had been right about him—would blow their circuits. If they ever do turn on Trump, they will admit it only to themselves and maybe a few close intimates. I’ve said before that asking Trump supporters to focus on his moral turpitude is like asking them to stare into the sun. They can do it for a split second, and then they have to look away. The Trump years have been all about looking away.
