It's an example of structural racism.

Structural Racism: A system in which public policies, institutional practices, cultural representations, and other norms work in various, often reinforcing ways to perpetuate racial group inequity. It identifies dimensions of our history and culture that have allowed privileges associated with “whiteness” and disadvantages associated with “color” to endure and adapt over time. Structural racism is not something that a few people or institutions choose to practice. Instead it has been a feature of the social, economic and political systems in which we all exist.

Systemic Racism: In many ways “systemic racism” and “structural racism” are synonymous. If there is a difference between the terms, it can be said to exist in the fact that a structural racism analysis pays more attention to the historical, cultural and social psychological aspects of our currently racialized society.

It's social science. Terms and definitions tend to be sort of plastic.

Only if you need/want them to be.

Oh you can use tightly-defined definitions if you wish, but using social science methods, there's no way to prove that differing definitions are wrong. It's pretty much a matter of style and popularity.

I see two words defined in your glossary post. Should not their definitions differ?

The glossary, which is an example of current popular style in social science, seems to find only quite subtle difference between the two terms. Whether they should differ or not, that's the way it is.

So, what was the point you were trying to make about 'differing definitions'?

Other than getting on my case, that is.

Nice deflection though.

Not meaning to deflect. You stated with assurance that while I wasn't sure about systemic racism being the right term, you knew the right term was structural racism. I was interested to know the difference, to understand your point and gain clarity on the definitions if possible. I therefore researched the two terms, found the Aspen Institute glossary, and reported my findings. They offered less clarity than I had hoped, but the sort I have come to expect from the social sciences.

Angry Look How Far We've Come, not.

Maryland Park Police Officer Sues over Racist and Extremist Messages from Fellow Officers

Quote:
Harvey ( Miles’ supervisor ) didn’t stop there. According to the complaint she also proudly proclaimed herself as racist, misogynistic and homophobic. Then she went further to suggest it was “time to start killing Black Lives Matter protestors” to kick off a civil war. Another officer responded back, “Boogaloo is coming,” referring to a far-right extremist movement. Per the suit, Harvey was also alleged to be dismissive of racial bias training and claimed racism was “made up.”
Such people infest the ranks because there are superiors who let them. Quick, somebody tell me again about there being only a few bad apples.
