I have a recommendation for you if you have time to tackle about 1300 pages. For over a thousand pages, it really is a quick read. It's by William Manchester, called The Glory and the Dream. It's a narrative history of the US from 1932 to 1972. One of my favorite summer reads when I was in college.

Regards,

D-ray

I can't think of a single solitary instance of terrorism perpetrated by them. anyone want to correct that?

The only thing I remember violence wise with the black panthers was the Huey Newton thing. I think the feds made them out to be more of than they really were since they espoused communist/socialist beliefs.

I think some citys have actually passed legislation declaring the KKK to be a terrorist orginization.

Me personally I'm against hate groups in any form but its always going to be out there.

The Huey Newton thing was an altercation between Newton and two Oakland cops who had pulled him over for a bogus traffic violation.

Research COINTELPRO. The FBI infiltrated the Panthers with agents provocateurs who tried to influence them to commit acts of terror, mostly against black street gangs or rival black nationalist groups. It didn't work.

There's no doubt that they are. Lynchings, cross burnings, bombings and the like are "classic" examples of terror tactics.

Seems like I remember some bombings back in the crazee daze of the late '60s-early '70s that the Panthers were "involved" in. They were kinda like wiseguys-Pretty much common knowlege they had a hand in a number of things, but nobody could ever prove anything...
