Right, I know the information is available but it just seemed to me they were lucky they didn't have a dud or two since the bombs were home made.

But, sounds like bomb making isn't all that difficult.

Now you've done it. We're all active files in a Cray supercomputer under Ft. Mead, now.

It's certainly believable. The type of device they used is as easy to make as a pot of oatmeal. Anybody of a mind to do so could build one with a conventional fuse in an hour or two at an expense of less than $200.

So, the bombs at the race were not lit with fuses, right?
How did they make them go off?

Any amateur remote control toy hobbyist could wire up the remote control detonator that was used at the marathon. They found the remains of a common hobbyist's battery, Tenergy, at the site. All it has to do is create a spark through a radio relay to set off the explosive charge.

A common garage door opener has all the parts needed.

Here's a hoot. A acquaintance of mine, whom we will call Mr. Wizard, thought it would be funny to make a little mercury fulminate (which is inert in liquid form). He took it took a local bar and dripped it on the floor. Once it dried, this compound reacts to the pressure of a shoe in a somewhat startling fashion.

WMDs have more definitions than you can shake a stick at. In other words, it's used politically, when deemed advantageous.
Was the last thing you want to do is turn him over to a military tribunal, their track record at Gitmo is pitifull. Old KSM is still alive and they keep delaying his trial for one stupid reason or another. Sorry but those guys are plain incompetent, try him in a civil court then hang him.
