I'm not precipitating a war over the amount of people we wound up losing.

Somebody, somewhere, made that call and I am FINE with it.

The calculated risk that security would hold up failed and got people killed. Going in guns a blazin' would get MORE people killed AND create a bigger problem.

I don't see any issues here.

French wine can be very, very good, the best in the world, IMO, but they've got so much of it that, unless you really know what you're buying you can be pretty disappointed. This is especially true when you're actually in France. The reason is simple. They don't export the crap because it wouldn't sell against the poorer brands in other countries. It sells in France simply because it's cheap.

I haven't been a drinker for a lot of years so I can't speak to the current quality of American wines. At the time I stopped drinking there really weren't more than a handful of good wines (or beers) from America. I think that has changed significantly in the last quarter century, largely due to research at UC Davis, California's big "ag" school.

There are apparently some really good American wines these days and I suspect the price to quality ratio is in America's favor. I'd be truly amazed, though, if the best French wines couldn't measure up to the best American wines in terms of quality.

Jordan Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is excellent, they also ship it to me for half what the local stores charge.

The funny thing about wines is that the Spaniards and the Swiss don't export their good stuff. Having been in both countries I find that disappointing.

Facebook took it down twice, so they get to join the shilling for Obama club. CBS is still king in that category though.

Given all the weird, stupid, crazy shit Facebook DOESN'T take down, this must have been a real gem!

Man, you are one tiresome teabagger. If The Mama Grizzly would get her hand out of your pants you just might begin to make some small degree of sense.

Denied what????

I never ONCE heard the president claim he personally went to Pakistan and killed bin Laden himself. What in the hell are you talking about? I do seem to recall him meeting with SEAL Team Six to congratulating them for doing an excellent job, however...............

Anybody else remember that?

I think you guys do more complaining about what you hear in your own heads, more than anything goes on out here in the real world.

Regards,
Dave

Interestingly enough, most of that French wine comes from Missouri grapes (at least the roots)

"In the mid-19th century, the phylloxera louse destroyed much of the Vitis vinifera grape crop in France. Missouri’s state entomologist, Charles Riley, found that American rootstocks were resistant to the pest. He directed sending millions of rootstocks to France, to which their grape varieties could be grafted. This saved the French wine industry. The city of Montpellier erected a statue in Riley's honor, because of the significance of his work."

I lived in Hermann, MO from when I was 12 until I was 21. Worked for the Dierberg family (First Bank...) at their wonderful Hermannhof Winery, Festhalle and the vineyards through high school.

Not many folks know that some Germans from Missouri saved the French wine industry.......

I knew about the American rootstock (it is just the roots) and the reason for using them but I never knew they were Missouri grapes. But Riley was a German???
