Thousands of law school alumni and students push for disbarment of Sens. Hawley and Cruz

More than 3,000 law school alumni and students have signed a petition calling for the disbarment of Sens. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) and Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) over what it says were their “efforts to undermine the peaceful transition of power after a free and fair election.”

Hawley and Cruz led efforts in the U.S. Senate on Wednesday to stop the counting of electoral votes certifying the victory of Democrat Joe Biden over President Trump in the November election.

Critics are accusing the senators of using rhetoric that helped inflame a pro-Trump mob that engaged in acts of insurrection at the U.S. Capitol as the vote-counting was underway.

That would be a good start, but they need to be kicked out of the Senate. Of course, even that wouldn't shut them up - look at the disgraced Newt Gingrich, who constantly spouts almost as many lies as DiaperDon.

Instead, what we saw on Wednesday were Republicans, including their House leadership, pandering to a mob by pretending that Congress had any authority at all over the certified results of elections in the states. They did so on behalf of a president who appears incapable of relinquishing power in an orderly and lawful manner, as though power was his birthright and any election results to the contrary were ipso facto invalid. Republicans in both chambers justified these actions not from any principle, but by explicitly citing the mobs of people that prefer to believe in conspiracy theories stoked by this president and his advisers. Rather than standing on republican and federalist principles, they lied to these supporters and led them to believe that Congress could actually change the results of these elections — and stoked the fury of the mobs when it didn’t happen.

All I can say is that both sides better pray that Biden is not sworn in. It's a zero sum game. That is, unless you pine for the days of the old Soviet Union - as the "best case" short term outcome.

Fascism Comes to the U.S.

So, one way or another, if Biden is sworn in, the US as we know it is done. Will will replace a system that distributes wealth unequally with one that distributes poverty equally, except to the ruling class. Or we have all out civil war first. Take your pick. It's one or the other if Biden is sworn in. And make no mistake, whichever way it goes, the transition will be rapid.

Here is a good thought exercise: Imagine, tomorrow, the internet is down - and it stays down for months. How will that impact our world? All you have is a voice and text phone and the US postal service.

Any call for Biden to not be sworn in is a call for insurrection, for an overturning of the Constitution. Any act in furtherance of that goal is an act of treason.
