With Trump as the presumptive nominee, the GOP has nothing to win and everything to loose. Towards the end of the primaries, some of them may have had visions of being able to work with Trump, but not anymore. So the GOP will find a way to subvert his nomination and choking off funds seems to be the easiest and a slam dunk.

After all the lobbyists need the GOP congress more than they need Toxic Trump.

He probably had a decent chance at becoming President Trump but alas, he had a loftier ambition and tanked within his own party.
