Traded in some stuff at Vintage Stock and picked up Jean-Luc Ponty - Canteloupe Island. He is joined by George Duke, Ian Underwood and Frank Zappa.
Also picked up Derek Trucks Band - Soul Serenade.
I looked for some of the things suggested in the other thread, but didn't have much luck.
Regards,
D-Ray

You'd be right! Canteloupe Island, Aurora and King Kong are all really good Jean Luc Ponty albums, all with varying amounts of Zappa influence.

One side is something I have looked for - one of Zappa's avante garde classical/jazz hybrid compositions - "Music for Electric Violin and Low Budget Orchestra."
It doesn't have a high WAF though. After I played one side, my wife went upstairs. But she was considerate enough not to complain, because she knew I wanted to listen to the new stuff.
Regards,
D-Ray

Blood Sweat and Tears - S/T
This is another recent bargain bin acquisition. I hadn't listened to BS&T in any real depth, so I wasn't aware of the level of jazz influence on their work - at least as reflected on this album. That shows the downfall of "greatest hits" compilations. I had picked up a "BS&T" greatest hits album when I was a kid, and that served my perception of their work. (Of course, at that time, I didn't have the gear to hear the full texture of the music either.) It's a lot of fun to gain a new perspective after all of those years.
Regards,
D-Ray
