The censure vote was 333 to 79 which implied that he was censured
heavily by democrats.

Charlie and his friend Percy Sutton for years carried out a 1, 2 punch against the famous Appollo Theater in Harlem.

When the then attorney general of Ny, Eliot Spitzer moved against them he Charlie tried to intimidate Spitzer, but Eliot would have none of it and ran him out of the Appolo.

So, this makes him a thief? Really?

Any which way you want to read it.

He was obviously part of a system which enriched itself at the expense of the theater.

After having been forced from his chairmanship of a board by an Attorney General, no way should Rangel become chairman of the Ways and Means (what an ironic name? ).

I've wasted enough of my Sunday chasing down stories in the NY Times about the Apollo and Rangel. Sorry, it doesn't pass the sniff test. I'm still waiting for you to prove that he's a thief Don.
Nothing yet?

I'd never waste my breath defending a career politician.

He's done anyway . A scoundrel? 'Tis possible maybe even probable I'll concede but a thief? That's a shabby and fucked up way to denigrate someone who has given so much to his country over his lifetime.

Let me sniff it for you :Charlie's friend Percy Sutton would use the Apollo to
make money and Charlie being chairman of the Appollo would run interference for him to make sure the Appollo was not paid its due.

The Attorney General smelled something was wrong up in Harlem and intervened with a law suit.

Here are some insights.

http://www.nytimes.com/1999/09/14/ny...-chairman.html

Please note especially the third paragraph...The announcement was not
enough......until the Congress man has actually vacated the chairman's post.

Charlie was trying some foot work but Spitzer was insistent.
