Wasn't it Clinton who was bombing the Serbians who were in their ethnic cleansing mode? There was also some cruise missles sent after Al Qaeda after the embassy bombings in Africa, I seem to recall.

All I remember of Ronnie Rayguns big record on foreign policy was making Grenada safe for pina colada sipping med students. That might be my flawed lefty recollection. His grandstanding after the fact, call for Gorbachev to tear down the Berlin wall was a PR hack job IMO. Solidarity did the heavy lifting as I recall.

More importantly, not in the Dub tradition. Obama has shown a little similarity to Bush I in that several middle east leaders have been willing to cooperate with the US in finding solutions to problems in the region.

You're right. Solidarity snuck into East Germany agitated for and end to Soviet occupation of the East. Then, they somehow fooled Moscow into spending billions of rubles on a national defense program that they could never sustain. I'll bet they spiked the Soviet economy and talked Mikhail Gorbachev into instituting glasnost too!

The Poles had a lot to do with it. So did the (Polish) Pope. Mostly, though, the Sovs did it to themselves by bleeding their economy dry in Afghanistan, to say nothing of their Five Year Plans which kepthetting them deeper and deeper in the hole.
