One of the interesting things about this interview with Besser (at least interesting for Chicago area folks) is that he was on John Kass' morning show on WLS (ABC) here. Kass is also the heir to Mike Royko's Page 2 column in the Tribune. Kass is up Obama's ass all day long and since Rahm Emanuel and Obama are friends he's up the mayor's ass as well. So Kass, for all his bipartisan sniping at politicians, has turned out to be a teabagger, with weekly interviews promoting teabag pimped US House members like Roskam and Kinzinger, while ripping Obama and Emanuel. So much for the legacy of Page 2.

So Besser comes on the phone and right out of the gate Kass is slamming Obama for not following the Pentagon's guidelines for quarantining just about any of their personnel who might have even fantasized about being in West Africa over the past few weeks. Besser, who is now the ABC News Chief Health and Medical Editor, wasn't having any of it right from the get-go. He basically yanked Kass' tongue out and stood on it for the whole 5 minute segment. "No John, the military is going to do what it does and it has nothing to do with what public health policy in this country should be."

Kass was obviously miffed and sulked in almost total silence for the rest of the interview, leaving the questioning to his morning air partner former local FOX News anchor Lauren Cohn.

While the contagious sick are more mobile in Africa then in the us until admitted to a hospital, the vector control Is immensely more difficult in the US. Hospital densities in the US are a factor of ten to twenty times larger, the hospital staff outnumber the patients, and there is around the clock care in the US.

The lack of care observation and knowledge of African techniques directly led to the two nurses' infection.

I agree it won't be the same here, I'd say of course not. That said it demands care. Clearly guard can't be let down.

Some news to be cautiously optimistic about. WHO official says Ebola cases slowing down.

Still, only one active Ebola patient in the US and the good doctor caught it in Africa treating Ebola patients.

She's definitely had her 15 minutes of fame. Good for her.

I gather that the press did not feel she was infectious the way they crowded around her. I guess our rights as citizens is no longer covered by the Constitution but by some governor's whim.

Judge updates ruling. Gov. LePage loses in his quest to bully Kaci Hickox. I hope the voters in Maine feel the same way come Tuesday and send LePage into retirement.
