Some hard truths that few want to acknowledge publicly:

(1) If every Republican votes to disallow every Biden elector on January 6th, Biden will still be declared the winner by Congress. This is simple math, Democrats are in the majority and will vote to keep the Biden electors.

(2) No state has sent a competing set of electors. Each state has sent only one slate of electors. No state legislature has asked Congress to reject its state’s electors.

(3) Trump’s new AG, the replacement for Bill Barr, took office on December 24th and (as far as we can tell) has done nothing to investigate this election. I don’t know him, he might be a great person and very qualified, but Trump hired him and he doesn’t seem to be investigating.

In Praise of Those Who Resist Temptation
The job of elected officials is to tell people the truth. Even when they want to hear lies.

The American people chose President-elect Joe Biden, which means that the only way for President Trump to stay in office after January 20 is to overthrow the greatest and most durable democratic republic in existence.

You would think that risk would be enough to help elected officials resist the great temptation.

But that temptation is powerful and some are biting the apple, most notably in Congress. Scores of Republican members of Congress have announced that rather than publicly state their acceptance of obvious truth, they will tell constituents who voted for Trump what they want to hear.

They plan to tell them, We’ll take a look at that.

These officials offer a variety of rationales for their decision, but the joint statement from a group of Republicans senators expressed the power of the temptation quite plainly.

The senators did not present evidence of any widespread fraud, they merely cited “allegations” that are “widespread,” and then offered polling numbers as evidence of voter distrust. When I read that statement, I didn’t see a grand conspiracy. I saw me, standing in front of a Rotary club in 2006, wondering how I was going to respond to the constituent suggesting that we spend $100 billion to rebuild every street in our city with concrete.

The statements in Congress this week struck me as the worst manifestation I have ever seen of the politician’s great temptation.

DiaperDon's attorney Jay Sekulow refutes claims of Pence authority over electors

Sekulow pointed out that the vice president's role to preside over the process is largely ceremonial.

"It's more of a ministerial procedural function," Sekulow told Andry Ekonomu, an Atlanta attorney who has served on Trump's legal team.

"Yeah, that's not the case at all," Ekonomu said, "It is a ministerial procedural function and I actually watched Vice President Biden presiding at the Electoral College certification of president Trump."
