Technically it was not Cruz's campaign that was behind the Melania 1st Lady ad, it was by an anti-Trump PAC by the name Make America Awesome. I am sure that the Cruz campaign knew and welcomed this ad, especially for his victory in Utah.

Yeah, I saw that excuse on his part.

It's too little, too late.

And I believe as you do, that Cruz knew about the ad and welcomed it.

The right thing to do would have been for him to immediately condemn the ad, get on the phone to that Super Pac and tell them he wanted it taken down immediately, and then get on the phone to Trump and apologize to both him and his wife. But he did none of that as far as I know.
