It's Yogi Berra day!

Quote:
Nobody goes there anymore; it's too crowded.

I knew I was going to take the wrong train, so I left early.

I wish I had an answer to that, because I'm tired of answering that question.

It's tough to make predictions, especially about the future.

We made too many wrong mistakes.

Anyone who is popular is bound to be disliked.

If you don't set goals, you can't regret not reaching them.

It gets late early out there.

It was impossible to get a conversation going, everybody was talking too much.

You should always go to other people's funerals, otherwise, they won't come to yours.
All from Yogi Berra

Remember Bertrand Russell?

Quote:
What is wanted is not the will to believe, but the will to find out, which is the exact opposite.

Folly is perennial and yet the human race has survived.

To acquire immunity to eloquence is of the utmost importance to the citizens of a democracy.

Be isolated, be ignored, be attacked, be in doubt, be frightened, but do not be silenced.

The fundamental cause of the trouble is that in the modern world the stupid are cocksure while the intelligent are full of doubt.

Fanaticism is the gravest danger there is: I might almost say that I was fanatical against fanaticism.

Most people would sooner die than think — in fact they do so.

All from Bertrand Russell, 1872 - 1970
It's ironic that such an eloquent person would caution about the danger of eloquence, but it follows from him being such a rational person....

Recommended to me by an elderly bookseller when I was in my late teens so it's a bit dogeared.. I used to haunt his bookshop on my lunch hours. We had some interesting conversations.

Mine a more recent acquisition. Out of the bins at the Goodwill, I couldn't see letting it go to the dump. I shouldn't let the fate of mass-produced objects like books bug me, but it does sometimes. You go to Goodwill and look at the book bins, and it's like you can the cultural legacy of the last 150 years or so being trashed, a couple of tons every day.

There is something about an old book.

I keep bringing home books from the one dollar seller on the Parkway
and my wife is fuming...where you gonna put those?

Usually non fiction but I have a special thing for the world wars, architecture,
philosophy, physics/its history and books in spanish.

I also would not pass Mr. Russell. BTW I like the quote about the stupid and cocksure.
