Yes he is. He's a great Hammond player, but he also does classical piano. Unfortunately, he recently died of pancreatic cancer. I wasn't familiar with his work outside of Deep Purple until recently. Live at the Basement with the Hoochie Coochie Men is extremely good and highly recommended. Interestingly, he was there to play his standard piano program, but injured his thumb and couldn't do that concert. The result was Live at The Basement.

He's my favorite rock organ player with the possible exception of Garth Hudson. Him and Richie Blackmore did a lot of "musical weaving" together like Keith Richards says of himself and Ronnie Wood. BTW, Blackmore's Night is also great stuff and entirely different than Deep Purple or Rainbow. His smoking hot wife, that's the Night, is also very good IMHO.

I have 3 of his cd's. I like this one the best so far. Some of the songs have some religious overtones to them, but I am pretty good at ignoring lyrics if the music is good enough.
