Oy vey! Yitzhak telling Steven not to touch his Stradivarius was good for a chuckle I just sat there marveling at it. Unbelievable sound even through the HT set up that I cobbled together. Marantz 4.1 with four of those original smaller Advent speaks. Re foamed and recapped by yours truly. Very nice low freq. response in a small sealed acoustic suspension bookshelf package, so no sub woof needed.
The wood for those instruments was grown during the Maunder Minimum,IIRC, the mini iceage that caused the slow super dense growth of woods used by Stradivari. Also north facing slopes in the alps contributed. Some experts say that was one of the reasons they sound so sweet and have stood up so well for centuries. The finish that he came up with is a another trippy thing. I've heard he used honey bee propolis as a resin compound along with shellac resin in the finish.

I've seen Perlman in relaxed settings before and, yes, he's a very funny guy. Plays a good fiddle too.

I don't have the album.... yet, but Mark Knopfler has a new release. Here is a sample.

Thanks JJ. Cool song, I've always been a big Knopfler fan. Brothers in Arms is in my personal top ten best albums. Money For Nothing reminds me of the pol wars. The scalp taking is getting out of hand on all sides. Shit, this old hippie don't have enough hair left for it.

The thread has now gone full circle. That was the album mentioned in the first post.
