Trouble is that the guy who was in charge - and likely still pulling most of the strings - in Cuba has not appeared to be much interested in "constructive engagement" with the US. Maybe 'cuz he's got a long memory of St JFK's botched Bay of Pigs raid. Cuba would have very little at this point to gain in that process.

Foreign relations, in case you've not noticed, tends to be a two way street.
How can I be a sad little man when all I have to do is remind myself that I'm not you?

But, as you so cleverly sussed out, I am a racist. Why else would I point out the obscene level of racial animus that's been unleashed against President Obama ever since he was first elected?

So, I seem to have hemmed you in here and left you with no option other than juvenile and foolish ad hominem excressences.

After the number of times we tried to kill him, Fidel can be forgiven for his jaundiced view of "The Empire" but he's a senile old man whose relevance to US/Cuban relations is long past.

Apparently that's just not enough.

What are "ad hominem excressences"?

You couldn't hem in a pair of gym shorts. You want to insert a false comparison between "constructive engagement" with South Africa, and doing the same with Cuba. You've failed to address the central point - what's in it for either side to do so? Finding none, you want to conclude that the folks who are opposed to ending the embargo - some of whom are Dems - are racist. Crock!

By the way, other countries, including our neighbors to the north, have pursued EXACTLY that policy with CUBA and have gotten very little if anything for it. So, again, what would be in it for the US and Cuba to pursue that strategy when its has been met with little success elsewhere (assuming success is defined as Cuba improving its record on human rights).

For the most part, your posts are.

Since I wouldn't expect you to entertain an argument regarding the moral cost of maintaining the embargo or in the benefits that would accrue to ordinary Cubans from lifting it, try this on for size.

You could be right. Being grateful merely for not being you is setting the bar very low indeed.

Whose morality? Castro's? See? We're still on that two way street.

Ours, whell. I said you wouldn't get it.

Look, I get that you wingers are all about punishing people who have the misfortune to live under governments you don't like but what, besides a sick sense of gratification, has the embargo done for you? Without the embargo, would Che have taken over the US? Would the New York Yankees now be the Habana Yanquis?
