Before praising NYT, I recommend reading this resignation letter from an editor they brought on to attempt to balance their editing:

On the surface Washington Post appears to have similar problems underneath. Their reporting has veered sharply to the left as evidenced by settling the defamation suit with that teenager. If Washington Post had any journalistic integrity left, they wouldn't have defamed in the first place.

One (wo)man's opinion is hardly "all that needs to be said", unless you're, you know, a Trumpkin idiot.
Quoting from your opinion piece:
"None of this means that some of the most talented journalists in the world don’t still labor for this newspaper. They do"
"I will be, as ever, a dedicated reader of their work."

NYT has a toxic culture that is prohibitive to publishing anything that rubs against the grain of that culture. Editors and journalists working for NYT therefore only have two choices: join the culture or quit.
This is not how newsrooms are supposed to work.

I think you're actually referring to Faux "News" here, bucko.
Once again, though, your grossly uninformed opinion, as a Trumpkin know-nothing, hardly qualifies you to say anything at all about how the NYT runs its newsroom. Unless you actually work there, which is OH SO PAINFULLY obvious, you don't.

I have no doubt Fox News has the same problem on the opposite end of the spectrum. My point is none of it belongs in newsrooms anywhere in the country. To be an ethical journalist, you have to check your feelings at the door and follow the facts. That's rarely happening any more. In fact, as Bari Weiss pointed out at NYT, not doing it is encouraged because it gets more impressions/ad money.

So how am I supposed to know the NYT newsroom's culture rises all the way to "toxic," as opposed to 'typically corporate and cliquish?' I'm sort of wondering how you know, beyond 'sounds like a useful narrative to me.'

Complete and utter nonsense. My older brother spent his career in a newsroom, with two Pulitzer nominations. You have no idea what you're talking about, and are a highly offensive piece of garbage.

He clearly has no clue what he's talking about, as usual. Just another reich-wing blowhard, like his hero Flush Limblow.

Because they hired a woman to fix a problem they admitted to having and then chastised her for doing what she was hired to do? It's hypocrisy.
At least places like Breitbart and Mother Jones don't pretend to be something they're not. I don't have a problem with them either because they wear their perspective/bias on their sleeve. They're just not good for informing the general public without moderation and alternative points of view.

There are good newsrooms out there today. Reuters, for example, is leading the pack. NYT and WashPo aren't.
