It is great that the crow parents accepted their babies despite the human smell on their babies. (Or did your Patty wear gloves?) A lot of birds disown their breeding in such a case.

Crows are smart. When they'd swarm the seed my SO would leave out in my backyard if she went out there they'd hang back and wait for her to give up. If they saw me they'd fly away completely for a time. They recognized us!

Sometimes there will be two or more in a Wild Cherry tree in my yard. If I go out on the deck empty handed they will just sit there. If I carry my pellet gun out, they will make a racket and leave, flying behind as many trees as they can on their way out.

We rarely get crows in our yard. Mostly smaller blackbirds. I never realized how huge crows are until I came upon some one day eating a dead thing on the side of the road. After that I kinda got what Tippi's problem was with them.

There was a raven in Petersburg, AK that sat on a rooftop and meowed like a cat, trying to coax out a local feline so he could dive bomb it.

Here's an old story about the ravens in Anchorage that gives a good idea just how smart these birds are.
